The Holroyd Community Theatre.

Moreton Hall is renowned for nurturing confident, creative students with a ‘give-anything-a-go’ attitude. So when they constructed the Holroyd Community Theatre (HCT), the vision was to create a cultural flagship. Somewhere dedicated to advancing education in the Arts, while providing accessible facilities to benefit social and cultural welfare around North Shropshire and the Welsh Borders.

However, theatres attached to prestigious independent schools face a unique commercial challenge. The assumption of being exclusive or inaccessible to the general public.

Having already transformed Moreton Hall’s digital presence, we continued our partnership to build a standalone brand and website for HCT. Our goal was to completely shatter those preconceptions, drive local footfall and establish the venue as an inclusive arts and educational destination.

The heart: A brand built on radical inclusivity

To make it clear that this is a theatre for all, we designed a relatable brand identity built on raw energy and community spirit.

Moving away from rigid corporate arts branding, we introduced a vibrant colour palette and fluid brushstrokes to convey movement and creative freedom. The visual identity is anchored by performer-led photography, ensuring the local community sees themselves reflected in the brand.

We delivered comprehensive brand guidelines detailing exactly how this energetic identity scales across every physical and digital touchpoint. This covers everything from high-impact street posters and ticketing to staff lanyards, event programmes and wayfinding signage.

The brain: A platform for connection

Paired with a welcoming tone of voice, the new digital platform serves as the commercial engine for the theatre. By uniting this highly emotive brand identity with a frictionless user experience, HCT now has an accessible digital presence that effortlessly drives event discovery, community engagement and educational programmes.

Shropshire’s Holroyd Community Theatre has a brand that proves exactly what it was built to be: A theatre for all.

FAQs

01. How can independent schools effectively market their community facilities?

Independent schools often build incredible facilities, like theatres or sports complexes, but struggle to attract public footfall because the overarching school brand feels too exclusive. The most effective strategy is to build a distinct, standalone sub-brand for the facility. At The Curious, we specialise in helping schools develop highly inclusive branding and dedicated websites that welcome the local community to drive independent revenue streams.

02. Why is brand identity so important for regional theatres and arts venues?

Regional arts venues compete for local attention and discretionary spending. A strong brand identity stops a venue from feeling like a generic village hall, instead elevating it into a premium cultural destination. Using our Heart & Brain methodology like we did for The HCT, we pair emotive, energetic visual identities with seamless digital platforms to make discovering events and buying tickets effortless.

03. Does The Curious specialise in branding for the arts, culture and education sectors?

Yes, we are a strategic growth agency that specialises in the education and leisure and tourism sectors. By combining premium brand storytelling with high-performing digital architecture, we help independent schools, community trusts and arts venues scale their market footprint and deepen community engagement.
